Erie P&DC not on new list 4-24-12

Postal management held a employee meeting with the news that Erie will be off the chopping block with the proposed legislation in the Senate under S1789. On Wednesday, the Senate passed S1789 with ammendments that would preserve the overnight delivery standard in our area. The bill now moves on to the House where the Republican majority will try to remove those provisions in the Senate bill that seek to preserve service. Write your representatives in Congress and let them know your thoughts!

The National Postal Mail Handlers Union has posted 134 of the 223 facility AMP studies and ours can be found here. Scroll down to page one under "Background Information" and look at these numbers;

Bargaining Unit Hours per Year: 1,745

EAS Hours per Year: 1,822

Now there is a fine example of lopsided overhead costs. It's all grim but at least it's now all out into the open. It's ironic there will be a net increase in EAS positions when all is said and done. (page 5)

A big glaring hole in the AMP is the Service Standard Impact. TBD = To Be Determined and all the relevant data is zeroed out. So, we can assume the decision to go ahead with approval has nothing to do with service. Thought so.

His plans have NO support from the public, the employees and most elected officials. Yet he forges ahead like a dictator. As Postmaster, he should be looking for ways to grow the business, not decimate it. The closing of thousands of Post Offices and Processing Plants around the country will put the Postal Service on the road to ruin. The "studies" the USPS supposedly did have proven to be frauds and outright lies. HE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BEFORE HE RUINS THIS 200+ YEAR INSTITUTION!"

District Manager says Erie gets the Axe next year

Well we finally got the news we all expected from the start last night, we're screwed. The Western Pennsylvania district manager held three meeting over 2-22-12 to 2-23-12 with all the employees at the East 38th street P&DC confirming the AMP results that say the good ole PO will save oodles of money shutting down our plant. There was a glimmer of hope though. Instead of being in front of the line of closures, we could dodge the bullet until this time next year due to our long distance from another sorting facility. All bets are off though after May 15th and the end of the moratorium. If Congress doesn't pass legislation protecting overnight service by then or at least impose another moratorium, the Postal Service can begin the process of closures. Erie City Counsel wants Erie GMF "Fully Operational"

On the February 15th counsel meeting agenda was a resolution sponsored by Councilman Brennan and Erie City Council in support of Keeping the Erie General Mail Facility (GMF) Fully Operational and will further authorize this resolution forwarded to U.S. Senators Pat Toomey, Robert Casey and U. S. Congressman Mike Kelley.
